It is currently being tested, but I am confident that it will hold (not sure about the 11 years though, but we will see). I ended up transferring one gear from the replacement motor to the original motor and this seems to have done the trick. The model number on the original motor seems to be 'L88' for what it is worth. It is constructed heavier on some points and having looked back on how the clock is constructed, this makes sense since this particular motor gets to handle a lot more force than a motor in a regular Copal flip clock. After giving the motor a closer inspection, it looks a LOT like a traditional Copal flip clock motor, but still it is different. Obviously I have some motors in stock and I tried fitting another motor only to find out that the main gear sticking out of the motor on the original is larger than anyone I have ever seen.įor this reason I ended up trying to transfer this gear, including the connected shaft, to the replacement motor, but then I found out that the shaft is thicker on the original motor. The issue with the clock was that for a few minutes every hour, the flaps for the minutes would turn backwards instead of flipping forward, this seemed to be because of play on the main shaft, which in its turn seemed to come from play in the gears of the motor. Inspite of all that, it seemed like a 'regular' Copal flipclock motor was installed. This is a large clock, with a very large and robust flip mechanism. I sold it 11 years ago and now it needed some work (sounds a like a decent build quality, eh?). I currently have a Copal Model 802 in for repairs.
